10DLC - A2P 10DLC messaging

10-Digit Long Code is a new conversational messaging solution that offers better visibility, engagement and cost-efficiency and adds trust to the customer relationship. 10DLC allows brands to send local A2P text messages using 10-digit local numbers available in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). 

Application-to-Person (A2P) messages are typically generated via a software application. Used by businesses to engage with customers, they're often called "transactional" as they're used for notifications, alerts, appointment reminders, etc. Person-to-Person (P2P) messaging refers to a conversation or dialogue between two individuals. P2P has low volumes and lower throughput.

The 10DLC registration process gives you the opportunity to have your brand vetted, which allows you to get a higher message throughput. Along with your use case, this will help carriers determine your total messaging throughput.

10DLC is ideal for A2P transactional messages such as appointment reminders, one-time pin codes, service updates, alerts, and smaller marketing campaigns.

Short codes will still be beneficial to most brands. However, if you're sharing a short code for U.S. traffic or have been using long codes that aren't registered and vetted by carriers, you’ll need to move your traffic to a registered, sanctioned A2P messaging solution - 10DLC!
