Traveling long distances can sometimes be a dull experience, especially when making connections, layovers, and transit stops on international flights. For travelers unfamiliar to a new city or airport, the transit experience can be overwhelming.
Wonderer, an airport based messaging service, aims to change this experience by allowing travelers to connect with each other, network, or just chat with someone new whilst waiting in an airport or exploring a new city. For example, users can meet up, ask for directions, or arrange to share a taxi.
Their iPhone app has gone live and Sinch caught up with Chicago based Yaxi from the Wonderer team:
“Using Sinch, the Wonderer app lets users instant message in public and private chat rooms. Before deciding to use Sinch, Wonderer tested their app with a forum format, similar to a message board, but decided that a public instant messaging chat room design would be much more effective, and decided to use the Sinch SDK.
In addition to this, Wonderer also lets users make private chats within the app, taking advantage of Sinch’s privacy features. Public chat records become unavailable after 24 hours and no personal information is required to access public or private chats. This is perfect for those who want to connect with travelers whilst on the move, but still keep a layer of privacy.”
The app is only available on iOS at the moment while they focus on development. When working on the Sinch integration, Wonderer found all the answerers they needed in the documentation, Stack Overflow and a few emails with the Sinch development team.
“Actually, Sinch is a pretty well documented SDK, so most of the problems and questions can be answered or solved from the documentation”
Overall, Yaxi describes Sinch as:
An easy-to-use, quick-to-deploy messaging service for those who want to integrate instant messaging functions into their apps
