Scholarly is the app connecting tutors and students anywhere, anytime. The idea stemmed out of HackingEdu, the world’s largest education hackathon. The team won the hackathon with their idea to create an app to make it fast and easy for anyone to find an available and reputable tutor, as well as to provide a toolkit for tutors to help, find, and manage clients. Aptly named Scholarly has since become more than just a recreational side project as they recently launched the app for iOS and Android.
We had the opportunity to catch up with the team behind Scholarly at this year’s Launch Hackathon. At the event, Scholarly explored some user collaboration tools, adding features like a calendar, instant message, and sending attachments for seamless communication between users.
In order to ensure every number is verified to secure their user base prior to a tutoring exchange, Scholarly turned to Sinch for SMS pin-code verification. Now users receive an SMS with a unique pin code upon registration. Sultan tells me Scholarly would like to integrate flash call verification for their Android users soon.
“Sinch SMS verification is working really well for us. It was simple to integrate and the entire process was fast and easy.” – Sultan Khan, Co-Founder & Android Developer
Next up for Scholarly is in-app payment, planned for release in Q3. The goal is to enable verified tutors to be paid directly through the app once a session is complete.
In need of a tutor or looking to become a tutor? Spread the word. Scholarly is officially up and running.
We look forward to seeing the success of Scholarly in the coming months!
