You get one person. You can’t see them. You can’t talk to them. You have to find them.
It was a faith in fate that led the Adil and Candy to build Rendezwho, an app that randomly pairs you with another user from anywhere in the world. The only information you are given is your distance from one another and you’re tasked with finding each other. If it sounds a bit like finding a needle in a haystack, it is, but that’s the fun of it.
To keep up engagement, the app poses a daily question, which both parties answer.
Once users meet their match, they exchange a code, which opens up communication functionality via chat, voice, or video. This way pairs can keep in touch, even if they are far apart.
“It’s unique in that it’s a one-on-one connection and you’re only ever paired with one person throughout your lifetime. You either meet them or you don’t. So they are the one person looking for you and you are the one looking for them and you can’t actually communicate until you meet,” explained Ansari. “We’re trying to make new friends, and we are saying there’s someone out there, so go find them and find out what they’re like.”
The app targets anyone going through a life change or any kind of transition that would prompt them to accept this adventure and go meet someone. Rendezwho is also an app for anyone looking to make a new kind of connection.
The San Francisco-based app uses Sinch to enable chat, voice, and video communications once users have found each other. “I like Sinch because the APIs are sort of intuitive and well-documented,” said Ansari.
“Sinch worked pretty much out of the box. It was easy to just switch in my screens for Sinch’s screens and everything else in the back I knew would work.”
The app is currently in beta and collecting user feedback on their experience of the app. While the app is currently only available for iOS, the team plans to develop an Android version once it gets a little traction. “This app should really be for anybody anywhere in the world regardless of language, platform, or other factors,” said Ansari.
