As some of you may know, flash call is a technology that is only supported by Android devices. But as Francois Martinez, CTO at oocom, found a
way to recreate our hack our flash call service on an iOS device, he definitely grabbed our attention*. We were so impressed that we arranged a call!
oocom is a new enterprise app that focuses on building a single communication platform for the French market. Mixing phone and data calling, oocom aims to be the next enterprise level, collaboration and communication app, removing some of the friction that has been caused over the years by multiple devices, platforms, and services.
“oocom. is the virtual mobile phone for business”
When I spoke with Francois Martinez, he explained how he recreated our flash call. Francois managed to use some of the data in an iOS device to find what number was calling by using the Sinch Verification API. And as stated many times before, phone number verification is getting more popular for developers today. I asked Francois why he picked Sinch.
“For us, the most important feature was the 5-minute test. Very often developer frameworks simply do not pass this simple test. Sinch was set up and working within 5 minutes, which made it a perfect fit for our project”.
Since the ambition is to make oocom the one enterprise communication app, his app needs to work across multiple devices. Francois told me he needed Sinch to be able to verify all of his users with SMS or Flash Call, as part of the setup process. He did need a little help from the Sinch support team to get iOS Flash Call working, but otherwise he found the SDK easy to use.
“Sinch will be the engine behind our calling feature”
On top of this, oocom is also using Sinch to power their phone calling. “Sinch will be the engine behind our calling feature and a core component of what we are going”.
In the coming months, Francois and his team in Toulouse plan to keep developing the app and get their first customer this fall. Keep impressing!
* Disclaimer – just to confirm that flash call interception is currently not supported by Apple. Francois’ work caught our attention, but also goes against Apple’s terms of service.
