A few weeks ago, I caught up with the founder of Hiyo, Caleb Chiu, to learn more about his app and the progress they had been making.
“Hiyo started as a conversation with friends” Caleb told me. “Current text apps are impersonal and make it hard to get a natural chemistry between two users. Hiyo is focused on the initial interaction with people”.
With his team of 3 in London, Hiyo is building a discovery and social app for meeting people in a fun and personal way. It connects users and puts them in a one minute conversation. Matched users can then have further minute conversations with each other where after each call, the app reveals more about the other person. Hiyo is built for those who want to meet new people through fun conversations.
“Right now, we are using Sinch’s app to app VoIP calling and it’s been really great so far. It works right out of the box!”. Caleb told me that they needed a provider that could help them prototype and get up and running really quickly. “Sinch was perfect for what we needed and the others looked a bit bloated”.
In the coming months, Hiyo will be finishing their iOS app, complete more user testing, and their alpha release will be coming soon. “We will also be testing if we can move people from using text communication to calling instead”.
“Overall, Sinch is a fast and reliable way of enabling communication within your app”
