This week, I caught up Roberto Cipriani, CTO of GradeSlam, the 24/7 on demand tutoring app for students aged 10 and up.
GradeSlam cuts the cost of traditional tutoring by providing a service through a medium that is second nature to today’s students – instant messaging. Using this platform, GradeSlam provides unlimited online tutoring for all academic subjects for just $15/month.
“Our mission is to make tutoring both accessible and affordable for all students.”
Cipriani shares that too often tutoring is a service reserved for the wealthy. Private tutors can run families upwards of $50/hr, a luxury many are unable to afford. It is this problem that Gradeslam aims to solve. The app approaches tutoring as an education service that needs be accessible and affordable for all, and they are taking this idea one step further by aligning the service with how students prefer to communicate today, via instant messaging.
In order to streamline the signup process and prevent users from opening multiple accounts, Gradeslam added SMS verification with Sinch — ensuring one account, one phone number.
“The experience [with Sinch] has been great. Not only is the SDK super easy to use, but the support team has been helping me from day 1.” – Roberto Cipriani
